2012 Rumblefish & Remedy

Just arrived at the shop are the 2012 Rumblefish Elite and Remedy 8. The Rumblefish is a 29er trail bike with 140 mm of Fox DRCV travel front and rear. The Remedy is Trek's tried and true technical trail bike sporting 150mm of DRCV travel front and rear. Shimano SLX takes care of the shifting and stopping on both bikes.

Weighing a hair over 31 lbs with pedals the Rumblefish lives up the 29er reputation of monster trucking over roots while the G2 geometry keeps the handling lively. Pointing and shooting over roots and rocks the Rumblefish sails along smoothly.

Trek continues to improve on the Remedy adding DRCV to the fork, slacking out the head tube by a degree and adding a mino link. The head tube angle can now be adjusted between a slack 67 or a faster steering 67.5. A quiver of one the Remedy weighs in at just under 31 lbs with pedals.

We're looking forward to spending some time on these bikes. If you would like to try the bikes out swing by the shop and rent one for the day, or join us on one of our Thursday night rides. Make sure to bring a light!

Thursday Night Rides!

Get out your lights and coats, Thursday Night Rides are here!! With the darkness known as winter fast approaching many riders put away their bikes or resort to trainers. But if you be of a hearty adventurous sort then there is TNR! We will be leaving from the shop on Thursday nights, departure time being ~5:30 pm, for mountain bike rides through Cappy's Trails. Ride length will depend on group, route to be determined by chance, group consensus or brutal tyrannical dictatorship. Hope to see you there.

2012 Demos are Arriving!

Our 2012 Fuel EX 9 demo has arrived! New for 2012 is a 1 degree slacker head tube, Trek exclusive DRCV on the RP-23 shock and on the slick Kashima coated Fox Float 32, and Shimano's new XT group for shifting and stopping. Bontrager wheels, tires, stem, bars and post bring the bike in under 28lbs with pedals.

Also just arrived is the 2012 Elite 9.9 SSL! Carbon frame, rims, bar, stem, and seat post. Equipped with XTR for shifting and braking and a Fox Float up front to smooth out the bumps the Elite is a race ready machine. SSL could stand for "Stupid Stinking Light!" as the bike with pedals is under 21 lbs!!!

We'll be ripping around the local trails testing out the new bikes. Further reviews to come! If you want to throw a leg over the bikes, swing by the Broken Spoke!

Are you ready?

Fall is upon us and now is the time to get ready for the weather that is coming. We have a lot of fenders and lights to keep you dry and visible all winter long. All of our winter clothing from Endura and Bontrager will be arriving in the next two weeks to keep you warm and dry. Do you have everything you need?

  1. Headlights - The first light is aimed straight forward and serves as my “be seen” light, the second is aimed low and serves as my “to see” light.
  2. Tail Light - The first is on the bike and a second can be run on the back of a helmet.
  3. Fenders -These will keep you dry from all of the water coming off your wheels.
  4. Mud Flap - Most fenders come with a mud flap but larger mudflaps are available.
  5. Rain Cover - These are a necessity if you are not using dry bag style panniers
  6. Saddle Cover – If you’re running a Brooks saddle, a must-have item. but great for when you bike is parked in the rain.
  7. Chain Guard - This will keep your long pants out of the chain. You can also use a pant clip or Velcro strap to keep your pants hole free.
  8. Bell – Bells are the most under-rated bike accessory, particularly if you ride multi-use paths like the Larry Scott Trail.
  9. Water Bottle – Don’t forget to hydrate in the winter too!
  10. Bag – For carrying a spare tube, multi-tool, etc. This could be a handlebar or seat bag.
We are also having our Fall Rental bike sale again this year. Get a gently used 6 month old rental for a good price. Sizes and supply is limited so don't miss this opportunity.

And last but certainly not least we would like to thank all of our customers for another great year of riding. We hope we can be there for all of you for many years to come.

Cheers
The Broken Spoke Staff.
